It’s hard to believe 30 years have passed since Congress designated March as Women’s History Month. This year’s theme, “honoring trailblazing women in labor and business,” is particularly fitting here at Balfour Beatty Communities because women play such an integral leadership role, not only shaping the direction of our organization, but shaping the lives of the military and civilian residents we serve across the country. “While we’ve not done the research, I feel safe in saying few organizations of our size equal us in terms of women in senior leadership roles,” says BBC President Chris Williams. “When I look at roles that need to be filled, I don’t look at gender; I look at the personal and professional skills that individual brings to the table.”

That philosophy has led to departments such as community management being led primarily by women. “Terri Edelman, our Community Management EVP, hasn’t just made a difference in our military housing installations; she has blazed a trail that has enhanced the entire privatized military housing program.”

“Almost 48% of our BBI North American senior leadership team is comprised of women who hold vital roles such as CFO, CAO, General Counsel, SVP of Community Management, Operations, HR, Marketing and Communications and our Director of IT ,” Williams adds. Thanks to their unique contributions, I feel confident we will continue being leaders in the residential market.”
