Short will bring proven industry experience to further accelerate the company’s growth in the U.S. higher education sector
Newtown Square, Pa --- January 10, 2012--- Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, LLC, a division of Balfour Beatty Capital Group, Inc, and a provider of development, management, and other real estate services to colleges, universities, or their affiliated entities, announced today that Jim G. Short has joined the company as Senior Vice President. As such, Mr. Short will be responsible for expanding the reach of the company and providing public-private solutions to colleges and universities nationwide.
In this new role, Mr. Short will help execute the strategic business plan the company has developed over the past 12 months. This plan presents capital and expertise to the higher education market for a variety of on-campus development projects including student housing, parking facilities, classroom and administrative buildings, and other infrastructure needs.
“We recognize that this is a time when colleges and universities nationwide are dealing with challenged budgets and have an immediate need for creative ways to finance, develop and manage their projects and facilities allowing their institutions to continue to grow,” says Bob Shepko, Division President of Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions. “We are very excited to welcome Jim to our organization and believe that his extensive experience in the higher education industry along with his broad background in business development, operations, management and commercial property management makes him the perfect addition to our team.” Prior to joining Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, Mr. Short served as the U.S. Division President and Board Chairman for Campus Living Villages, a national leader in the privatized management and development of on-campus student housing, part of a global student housing network spanning the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. In this role, he was responsible for company integration following mergers, assembly of business development teams, overseeing two new developments and six acquisitions, and growth of the company from $36m in revenue from fiscal 2006 to $81m in revenue for fiscal 2011.
Previously, Mr. Short worked as the Operations Division President for Century Campus Housing Management. He was extensively involved in new business development, meeting with universities and attending industry functions to grow brand awareness. He was a member of the project development teams which resulted in projects with George Mason University and Arizona State University. Mr. Short also worked for Koll/Rubloff, a national commercial property management and brokerage firm in which he served as General Manager/Director of Marketing and Leasing and held positions with American Medical Technologies, Carma Development, Pace and Company Builders and Ernst & Whinney.

He is affiliated with the Institute of Real Estate Management through which he attained his Certified Property Manager (CPM) status.
